Sony BRAVIA 1080p 3D LED HDTV, Black
Product Description
Sony BRAVIA 1080p 3D LED HDTV, Black Size: 40-Inch Product Description 3D Technology Checklist
This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use the checklist below to ensure you have everything you need. 3D viewing requires:
A DisplayFirst, you'll need a 3D-ready display--whether it's a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession.
A SourceYour display may be ready for 3D playback, but you'll still need a device to read 3D content. This can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system.
3D Content3D content--the actual entertainment, in other words--will be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it's a 3D broadcast from your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D video game.
3D GlassesFor now, the vast majority of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D viewing. Many use powered "active shutter" glasses, others polarized "passive" glasses. You'll need one pair per viewer, and they'll have to be compatible with your display, whether they're the same brand, or a pair of "universal" glasses designed to work across brands.
HDMI CableTo connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a high-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal without any loss of quality. If you want to get more information about 3D, shop our 3D products, watch videos, or interact with other customers, we invite you to visit 3D 101, our customer center about everything 3D. Internet-Ready Television
Internet-ready TVs use your broadband connection to deliver dynamic content, whether it's streaming video from Netflix, new music from Pandora, or a quick glance at today's weather forecast.
Although there is overlap, each manufacturer offers a unique bundle of free or paid services, including streaming video and music, social networking apps, online photo galleries, news and financial updates, weather info, sports scores, and a variety of other smartphone-like applications.
Manufacturers continue to add new content to their offerings, keeping customers current through firmware updates, and making a bit of research a prudent step in your buying decision.

This review is from: Sony BRAVIA KDL40EX720 40-Inch 1080p 3D LED HDTV, Black (Electronics)
UPDATE 3/30/2011: Amazon has removed the 240hz tag from the product title but not the "whats in the box" section. As this 120hz product is no longer being incorrectly advertised as 240hz, I am re-adjusting the rating.
WARNING: Possible Deal breaker concerning this TV.
NOTICE: As of 3/24/2011, I noticed via the Sony Style website that they state the EX720 is now only 120hz, not this advertised 240hz. I hope this is a typo on Sony's end but if it is not, there is a serious case of false advertisement going on. I was specifically on the market to purchase a 240hz HDTV, as the price tag warrants it, and thus this may change the satisfaction level of this review. Before you purchase this product, make sure you know there may be a case of false information taking place regarding the refresh rate.
Update: It is confirmed that the this HDTV is NOT 240hz as advertised. It is only 120hz. The rating has been adjusted purely because it is false marketing and reveals little improvement over previous models which cost much less. One of the main reasons to get a 240hz HDTV for 3D is that you get 120hz per eye as the image flickers back and forth. If the refresh rate of the TV itself is only 120hz, this means you are only getting the 60hz experience when watching 3D. 60hz is what we are trying to get away from.
There is absolutely no excuse for false advertising, higher costs for features not present. If you are looking to get a 3D TV, make sure it is absolutely 240hz or else you are just wasting your money. If you want a TV but dont plan on using the 3D features, then this unit is ok but there are cheaper and better alternatives in that case.

Updated - Old Review:
The Sony Bravia 40EX720 is a decent 3D HDTV.
I was originally on the market for a HDTV in which to use as a computer monitor/gaming screen and after Sony revealed its 2011 lineup at CES 2011, I knew I had to get one.
The first thing I can tell you is that this TV is solid. I felt quite satisfied with the build quality (a bit of cheap plastic on the back, but I have yet to find a LED LCD HDTV that didnt have that feeling). Unlike the previous EX series HDTVs, the bevel on the bottom which looks grey in some pictures is actually a dark black. This was actually a downer for me as I kind of liked the grey strip on the bottom as seen in some EX7xx pictures. I love the menu system, it is a modified version of the 2010 menu system. The 2010 line of Bravia HDTVs made use of the Playstation 3 and PSP menu system to the point where they were practically identical. The EX720, and by my guess all the 2011 models, opted out of the PS3/PSP menu design in favor of a more streamlined version. It grows on you and generally I find it much more visually appealing and easy to navigate.
The remote is perhaps the best thing this tv has going for it. It has some handy buttons that work better than one would expect. The 3D button on the remote turns the tv into stereoscopic 3D mode, one more press and it turns it off. You can watch anything in 3D as the Bravia will emulate the 3D effect for non-3D content. Other remote buttons include a quick netflix toggle, internet video, Qriocity as well as a very handy HOME button.
The internet video works like a charm as well. I managed to watch youtube videos straight from the TV as well as browse online music libraries, though it was a tad sluggish (High Speed Cable).
Plugging in a USB drive with some short films on it worked as well. The TV will recognize the USB device and then you can go ahead and access what you wish to watch or listen to from it. There is no demo built into the tv for video, but there is one music track and a few pictures automatically installed on the TV.
No dead pixels. Lighting is even across the entire screen. Great black levels. Semi-Glossy screen (the mix between a glossy and matte). Color a bit faded, low bright levels. Certain colors seem washed out, and even at the most vivid settings, the color is a bit lack luster. This may have to do with the back lighting being minimal.
The EX720 may not be the best HDTV Sony has to offer for 2011, but for its features and capability... I would say its a competitor for sure.
Note: The North American EX720 was assembled in Mexico and the current LCD panels are the same Samsung uses. This may or may not be a problem for some TV buyers.
HDTV is NOT 240hz as advertised, but 120hz. In 3D, you will only get a 60hz experience (120hz divided by 2, 60hz per eye for stereoscopic).

This review is from: Samsung UN65D8000 65-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV (Silver) (Electronics)
I received this TV about 10 days ago and its awsumb. I am not impressed with web access through the TV and the game apps etc but I did not buy it for those features. I bought it to hook my PC to it. I bought a long range keyboard and mouse and hooked my PC up to it and its like a huge monitor. You can adjust any resolution your video card can produce up to 1920x1080. I typically run 1280x1024 so I can see the writing from far away. You adjust the resolution and the TV accomodates it. I can do all the things I need to do on the web with my PC and this TV. I press the input button a few times and I am watching TV or Dish network... etc. The picture is really beautiful. I noticed when I played one of my favorite DVD movies through the Blueray player some of the scenes actually looked like video tape. That could have been due to the Blueray player upconverting a standard DVD. Football games look really great. The players are shown actual size..lol Its amazing technology to produce a picture this great with such a tiny screen thickness. The bezel is just fine on this TV. This thing weights 80 lbs so you need something you can grip to move it. BTW my aquarium screen saver on the PC looks awsumb on this TV. 3d movies seem to come out of the screen into the room... wow. What an effect.

This review is from: Samsung UN46D6300 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LED HDTV (Black) (Electronics)
Pros:
Picture is amazing
Multiple HDMI inputs
Easy to setup
Smart TV is exceptional
Cons:
Remote isn't optimized for Internet use(They have a keypad-remote coming soon)
Some apps missing from TV
I read a boat load of reviews on a bunch of TVs and went to BestBuy on numerous occasions to figure out the perfect TV for me. I picked this TV over the D6000 because I wanted the web browser. Overall, the TV is amazing. Picture quality is excellent, I'm very impressed with the "auto motion plus" feature that adds frames for fast scenes. I'm a big time sports fanatic and gamer so I was really interested in this feature. You can also adjust how hard you want it to work, which is awesome. The sound quality is good, I didn't expect to be blown out of the water since all TV companies expect you to connect their TV to a home theater. You also don't need to put in special codes to adjust the RGB, it's all there in the menu for video-enthusiasts.
It has a blu-ray mode that optimizes blu-rays to look their best. I saw "Dark Knight" in a whole new light this past week! It has a game mode that turns off all the extra processing to minimize input lag. The Smart TV function is great. It continues video in the top left corner and you can browse your apps like Netflix, Hulu Plus, Facebook, YouTube and all that awesomeness. The 6300 comes with the web browser which works well. It also allows you to watch TV and browse at the same time.
The only problem I have with the TV is the remote. You can definitely tell they made the remote to frustrate you and get you to buy the new keypad. Luckily, there is an app for that on androids and iphones. Also, I'm a fitness enthusiast so I was excited that GymBox and Exercise TV came for free with the TV, however, they aren't there or available for download. My guess is that they still are rolling out all the apps since it's so new.
FOR GAMERS:
Game mode cuts lag down but sacrifices picture quality to do so. The game still looks good but it'll make you sad when you compare it to game mode being off. I tested out Uncharted 2, Crysis 2, Gears 3 beta, and some sports titles. With all video processing turned on, there is a definite lag, HOWEVER, I have found out with game mode off, you can cut off LED Motion Plus and set Auto Motion Plus to custom and have it at a 1-3 depending on preference, it will still look amazing and minimize lag. I've gone online and my K/D has not suffered at all(Uncharted-1.5, Crysis-1.5-but this past week with the TV it's at around 2-3 K/D with the improved picture quality). I tested out Mortal Kombat with everything still on and it played great, I didn't go online, though.
If you have a question about anything because I'm sure I forgot some cool things about the TV, leave a comment.

(March 2011)
Saving energy never looked better. VIERA E3 Series LED HDTVs offer an IPS Alpha LED LCD panel, which include new technology that offers amazingly high levels of brightness and energy saving efficiency in a VIERA LCD HDTV.
Original Panasonic Features VIERA Image Viewer
Equipped with an SD card slot, VIERA makes it easy to view full-HD photos and motion images that you shot yourself. Simply insert the SD memory card into the slot, and you're ready to view your photos and full-HD videos on the big screen. You can make your slide shows even more impressive by adding background music and attractive frames. With VIERA's big screen and superb image quality, family and friends will love sharing your memories.
VIERA Link
Games are much more fun when there's no lag in operation. VIERA automatically chooses settings that provide the optimal image, so you get super-fast response and no delays. Even dark scenes with delicately rendered details are beautiful and easy to see.
VIERA Tools
The VIERA Tools user interface makes it easy to access and understand key functions. Simply press a function button, and an explanation appears on the screen. Keep the button pressed to activate the function immediately.

IPS Alpha LED LCD Technology
The IPS Alpha panel, which is known for its wide viewing angle and excellent light transmittance, is now further enhanced with a bright, energy-saving LED backlight. Images do not fade when viewed from an angle, and contrast is higher than in previous IPS Alpha models in spite of using less power. The IPS Alpha LED LCD TV offers superb color rendering and also contributes to the display's slim design.
LED Backlight
This system places LED backlights on the top and bottom of the panel, and sends the light toward the center of the screen. Using light guides and diffusers, it distributes the light over the entire panel to provide backlighting. There is no need to cover the entire rear surface with LEDs, so the panel module is thinner and a great deal of energy is saved.
Dynamic Contrast
By combining the highly light-transmissive IPS Alpha Panel and high-brightness LED backlight, Panasonic has attained both high contrast and low power consumption. Also, by detecting the contrasting parts of the scene, the backlight is adjusted to maintain a brightness that is optimal for each area. Deep blacks are reproduced with no fading. The contrast between the brilliance of diamond-like stars and the deep black of the night sky produces a sharp, crisp image.
Wide Viewing Angle
With VIERA's wide 178° viewing angle, you see clear, vibrant images from every seat in the room. The backlight features a wide transmission aperture that enhances contrast between light and dark and improves response to provide smoother motion images.
EASY IPTV
Simply press the VIERA Tools button on the remote control to directly access a variety of Internet services. Enjoy online music and movies with ease.
DLNA / Wi-Fi Ready
Connect a DLNA-compatible VIERA and DLNA-compatible AV equipment to your home network, and you can watch movies, listen to music, and view photos from any room in the house. VIERA's Wi-Fi capability gives you even more layout flexibility. *Must have wireless USB adapter for Wi-Fi, such as DY-WL10

This review is from: Panasonic VIERA TC-L42E3 42-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LED HDTV (Electronics)
The Panasonic HD TVs receive very good reviews both here on Amazon and on other sites. I am not going to go into all the details that are already in the other reviews since I don't find redundancy useful. I purchased this model after viewing the 32 $ 37 inch versions in local stores. I couldn't find the 42 inch model locally so I ordered from Amazon at what I consider a fair price along with the free return policy. The set is performing flawlessly after a month and a half. Both my wife and I are very happy with the picture and over all performance. We added a Blu Ray player and 1080p discs look excellent. I don't have a negative thing to report at this time. I haven't upgraded to a home theater system yet so I can't comment either way on external audio system compatibility.
